Devin R. Fensterheim '06 and '07I am currently a graduate student at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Working at CIS as an ITA and ITA supervisor was an extraordinary experience in many respects. From a technical standpoint, I had the opportunity to work on projects that affected the entire University community, hone my technical skills in a production environment, and work with a team of highly motivated and talented individuals. Moreover, being an ITA afforded me experience in project management, supervision, and leadership. Overall, being an ITA was an enjoyable, productive, and challenging experience; provided a plethora of opportunities; and was indubitably a highlight of my undergraduate career at Rutgers. Jeffrey Sam '06"Working at CIS has been one of the major highlights during my time at Rutgers. It a very fun atmosphere and you get to make friends from all over the university. Not only that, but it played a major role in my search for a job after I graduated. In addition to learning programming languages and tools that are currently used in the Technology Industry (an industry that I was looking for a job in), you even obtain practical experiences with these tools by developing and testing your very own applications! Nothing looks better on a resume than practical job experience and this is a great atmosphere to learn and apply these skills. You even learn a lot of basic desktop troubleshooting skills which helps anyone, regardless of their major, in this world where everyone has a computer. If you're looking to gain practical experience in web development or if you just want to learn how computers work, this will be a great opportunity for you to work and have fun at the same time."
Shwetha Nagaraj '06"I am working currently at Citigroup- Smith Barney in their technology division as a Software Engineer. It was a very enjoyable stay for me at CIS. One year at CIS as an ITA gave me great experience technically as well as the chance to associate with high quality professionals. The work I did at CIS added great value to my resume and helped me with my job interviews a great deal. I will always have fond memories of this place and people I worked with." Max Kapustin '05
"I am currently employed as a Summer Intern in NERA Economic Consulting.
I came to CIS in November of 2003 as a freshman studying Computer Engineering.
During my time at Riverstede, I worked on a number of projects, including the rewrite of code for the RU-Info call center and Colonel Henry.
My fellow ITAs and I presented much of the progress we made during the year at the Rutgers Information Technology in Education (RITE)
conference later that summer. I left CIS in August of 2004 to pursue a degree at New York University.
CIS was the first truly collaborative working experience I ever had, the first chance to work as a team to accomplish
something greater than I could have accomplished myself. I came to CIS with only a hazy idea of what it would take to do this.
By the time I left, I knew to ask for help when I needed it, to always be attentive to user needs, and to never cease learning
from my talented team members. In addition to my amazing team and supportive manager, I got to work with an office full of friendly
people and unforgettable personalities. My time at CIS will remain among the fondest in my memory.
Most memorable was the day the power went out. Riverstede?s generator kicked in, and as we soon discovered,
not all the electrical outlets in the building were receiving backup power. Wires were run over staircases and carpets,
laptops were pulled out and used to substitute work stations that went dark. While College Ave. was scrambling to get back on its feet,
it seemed to me that CIS barely skipped a beat. Everybody jumped in to help and ensured that the office ran smoothly during an emergency,
fulfilling the mission of CIS."
Robin Bhattacharyya '03"My experience as an ITA laid the groundwork and direction for my entire career in IT to follow. This position gave me the opportunity to learn new technologies and enhance my skills while giving invaluable creative freedom and a broad range of areas to work with. I can't think of anywhere else I would have been able to work in multi-platform web/software development, systems administration, graphic design, networking, hardware, troubleshooting, radio, and television all at the same job. The fun, flexible, and casual atmosphere is unique among IT jobs and your ideas and input are always appreciated at CIS."
Vash Rayaprolu '03"My time as an ITA was amongst the most memorable times at Rutgers. I got to interact and exchange ideas with some great people. I also got to learn a lot of do's and dont's of the production environment. The work environment was always fun. While at CIS, I was developing applications for RUTV. This introduced me to client interaction which later proved indispensable as I went into IT consulting."
Hien Nguyen '03"Being an ITA was one of my favorite jobs. It was both a rewarding and enjoyable experience. The staff made CIS a fun place to work. The ITA position presents the learning experiences and room to grow that prepares you for a full-time job in IT and consulting fields." |
